My First YouTube Video - My Second Life Ferris Wheel

I want to create some instructional videos for Second Life. These will tie in closely with the examples in my books about Second Life. I have done some work with video production, but have yet to post anything to YouTube. You can now see the results of my work here:

Encogia Ferris Wheel

The process for creating the video was somewhat simple. First I captured the video using Second Life's built in video capture feature. I captured to uncompressed AVI. This is quite large, but its generally bad to comparess video twice. So I keep things uncompressed, and generate huge video files, until I am ready to compress for YouTube. The steps were:

  1. Captue using SecondLife's video capture, output is AVI
  2. Use QuickTime Pro to convert AVI to DV
  3. Import DV into iMovie
  4. Use iMovie to clip unneeded parts and format the video
  5. Expot from iMovie to YouTube

Version 7 of iMovie has a really nice feature where you can export directly to YouTube. I took advantage of this to produce the video. I was also able to quickly generate an iPhone version to play on my iPhone. This will be useful to give someone a quick demo of what I've been working on in Second Life.
